This box with a raised verticulated carved panels in supported in an angle is a popular piece of furnishing that is illustrated in books on Ming Dynasty furniture. This is a simpler version, made around the turn of the 20th century. When not in use, the verticulated panel is lowered and it lays flat on the box. While in use, a mirror will be placed on the raised panel. There are two drawers for combs and make-up and a large hidden space under the two drawers. The verticulated panel is a masterful piece of carving. The panel is divided into small sections put together by a series of joinery. It is a very pretty piece.
