Description
A stunning large crystal candleholder
Tall and elegant, this hand blown crystal candlestick was made by Moser in the early 1900's
Art Deco style, cut into seven panels, with intaglio cutting on the stem, polished base
Made of Alexandrit glass - a reactive (dichroic) glass that changes colors in different light spectrums, a fascinating and rare quality.
Alexandrit glass was eventually first made by Moser in Bohemia in the early 20th century. It was named after the dichroic mineral Alexandrite. It contains neodymium oxide, so it is also called Neodymium Glass
The characteristic light purple / lilac color would have bluish / reddish / pink hues under artificial light
Shiny and with great clarity extremely fine crystal
It has an oval stamp at the base reading Moser in cursive
This candlestick is one of a kind. The size suggests that it was most likely made for an exposition as an example of the great craftsmanship and the high quality of their glass. Moser glassworks participated in many important exhibitions through the years since their beginnings in 1857 in Carlsbad Bohemia, and won lots of impressive prizes.
Circa 1920-30's, Bohemian, found in Germany
