All hand painted medallions rendering named portraits in profile of Hercules, the Greek Mythology hero, immortalized by Home, and Sappho, one of the greatest poets in classical literature, called "The Poetess" in the times when Homer was called "The Poet"

Furstenberg Porcelain Factory (Porzellanmanufactur Furstenberg) was created in 1745 and produced some of the finest German porcelain pieces, competing in quality with Meissen, Ludwigsburg and Frankenthal

Most likely these plates were once a part of Ancient Greek Mythology related series, scarce to find nowadays and highly collectible
