Description

An outstanding and unusual large Japanese plate or shallow bowl
Hand painted all over, top and bottom, with polychrome enamels
Bold colors, red, green and underglaze cobalt blue
It features two portraits, possibly a family, male and female, in traditional attire: kimonos and hairdo, surrounded by typical for the period patterns
The bottom depicts three kids playing among flowers
Exquisite work altogether, aligned with the highest standards of the Japanese aesthetics
Signed with kanji characters upfront, additional research needed for detailed identification
Circa late 19th/very early 20th century, Meiji period (1868-1912)
Measurements: Approx. 10" diameter (across) x 2.25" tall / deep
Weighs about 1 lb. 13 oz.
