Verso bears a Thomas and Christie Accatino collection stamp and an attached signed statement of provenance from Robert M. Eldridge, which references this piece on p. 170 of "Maxfield Parrish" by Coy Ludwig, Watson - Guptill. Depicting a steep, vertical mountain formation on the right side of the composition, with rolling hills and a valley basin extending into the background under a pale sky. A cluster of trees is positioned in the left foreground on a sloping rocky ridge. The composition is rendered primarily in shades of blue, purple, and cream. Parrish rarely used watercolor as a standalone medium , relying instead on a unique combination of watercolor, ink, and oil glazing. This technique is scene here. While he utilized watercolor for baseline layers, his iconic glowing style was achieved by applying thin, transparent layers of oil pigment and varnish over a white, or light colored backgrounds.
