GERMAN FEATHER CHRISTMAS TREE, constructed from dyed goose-feathers wrapped around heavy gauge wire and inserted into a wooden dowel trunk, branches on the three lowest layers have side shoots, the whole supported by a painted turned wooden base with a gold Dresden paper trim. Trunk retains the likely-original paper wrapping. Stamped "Made in Germany" on the base. Decorated with a period piece of German silver tinsel. First quarter 20th century. 58" HOA, 28" D.
Provenance:
The estate collection of Patsy Martin, Chambersburg, PA.
Good overall condition with the feathers still supple and not dry/brittle; typical losses to feathers to sections of branches, losses to a couple of the side shoots; lacking two branches in the top half with partial losses to the very top branches; the base lacking its feet with a crack along the lower edge of one side and loss to a section of the paper trim.
