A distinctive antique American folk art hall mirror, dating to approximately the late 19th or early 20th century, combining architectural form, hand-painted decoration, and practical function.

Measuring 38.5 inches wide by 48 inches high, the mirror features an unusually shaped wooden backboard with sweeping sides and a handsome stepped architectural pediment. A projecting upper shelf or cornice adds dimension and gives the piece a particularly strong decorative presence.

The aged painted surface is finished primarily in a muted aubergine-brown, complemented by blue-gray panels and delicate cream-colored pinstriping following the contours of the frame. Particularly charming are the hand-painted floral motifs positioned above and below the mirror. Stylized red flowers with green foliage and yellow accents give the piece its appealing folk-art character and make each decorative element feel distinctly handcrafted.

A generously proportioned rectangular mirror occupies the center, surrounded by molded wooden trim with softly rounded upper corners. Two gracefully shaped brass-tone double hooks flank the mirror, allowing the piece to function as both a looking glass and a practical hall furnishing for hanging hats, coats, scarves, or accessories.

The reverse reveals traditional wood construction with old nail holes, surface wear, oxidation, and an older paper backing protecting the mirror. The present hanging wire appears to be a later addition.

The mirror remains in attractive antique condition, displaying scratches, abrasions, small chips, paint losses, old holes, and other surface imperfections consistent with its age and history. These signs of use contribute to its wonderfully authentic, time-worn appearance.
