At three feet across, this oversized engraved brass tray has the scale of architectural wall decor and the intricate surface detail of a much smaller decorative object. The design unfolds in concentric registers, beginning with a finely rendered bird surrounded by flowering branches at the center. Successive bands introduce leafy vines, florals, birds and animal figures-including deer-before giving way to densely patterned geometric borders and a richly worked outer rim.

The brass has developed layers of warm brown, gold and subtle iridescent patina that emphasize the engraving and give the piece considerable depth. Particularly beautiful are the variations in tone across the surface, which shift with the light.

The imagery and decorative vocabulary are consistent with Persian and Indo-Persian metalworking traditions, although the exact country of origin and maker are unknown.
At 36 inches in diameter, this is unusually substantial. Display it as a dramatic piece of wall art, lean it on a large mantel or console, or use it as the focal point of a collected, globally influenced interior.

In good vintage condition with naturally developed patina, oxidation, tonal variation, surface wear and scattered scratches consistent with age and use. A more noticeable scratch is visible in the detailed photographs. The surface has not been polished, preserving its aged character.
