"Sandstone I" is an abstract photographic composition created from natural sandstone and tidal formations observed along the rugged coastline of Point Lobos, California. Originally photographed in 1982 and later reinterpreted through mirrored tessellation in 2009, the work transforms geological textures into a symmetrical meditation of earth, water, and mineral. Layers of oxidized copper, deep cobalt, ivory, and weathered stone create shifting forms that evoke aerial landscapes, ancient maps, and natural cross-sections of rock. Clifford Baker's abstract vision invites viewers to discover their own imagery within the composition - revealing the hidden geometry and quiet monumentality of the California coast.
