Description
A striking pair of late 19th century covered tureens by Edge, Malkin & Co., produced in Staffordshire, England, circa 1880. Rendered in a refined palette of a rare turquoise and sepia palette with hand-painted gold gilding-perfect for Ralph Lauren-style or Palm Beach interiors. These pieces embody the elegance of the Victorian Aesthetic Movement with subtle Anglo-Japanese influence.
The elongated, architectural form is particularly compelling-low and oval with integrated side handles and sculptural lids featuring looped finials and stylized foliate detailing. The repeating panel motif, with delicate botanical elements framed by linear borders, gives the pieces a rhythmic, almost graphic quality that reads as both classical and modern.
Marked to the underside with the E.M. & Co. stamp and pattern name "Oak."
Equally suited for use or display, this matched pair works beautifully styled on a dining table, sideboard, or built-in-bringing symmetry, color, and period character to an interior.
