Very well executed and preserved original oil on canvas landscape of a European, English or American village.

Centerpiece is a single observer in a hat watching a steam train power through a prosperous village at the base of a mountain range.

Evokes scene of early industrial revolution and expansionist times, with fresh tree stumps symbolizing growth, a full church steeple signifying prosperity, federal style brick architecture, and smoke from chimneys across the valley.

23" wide by 16" tall by 1" deep. Unframed, but secured on a stretcher and ready for presentation.

Unsigned, but clearly the work of an experienced hand. Wonderful detail and fantastic scale.

This is a lovely - albeit mysterious - painting. The work is very, very good, the perspective is perfect, the use of color and texture is impeccable...we wish we knew more.

My husband wonders if this could be Virginia, somewhere in the Shenandoah Valley, in the mid/late 19th C.

It came to us from a very good Virginia estate, so the pedigree is there.
