The Bakhtiari are among the largest tribal confederations of Persia, historically migrating twice yearly between winter pastures near the Gulf and summer grazing in the high Zagros; their settled villages in Chahar Mahal produce carpets that marry tribal boldness to a village weaver's discipline.
