Description
A breathtaking achievement of the Italian cabinetmaking tradition, this custom-crafted dining suite is a masterpiece representing the highest level of furniture craftsmanship and a truly rare find. Rendered in the celebrated manner of Giuseppe Maggiolini, the master ébéniste known as the prince of marquetry whose intricate inlay defined the height of Italian neoclassical furniture, it is a singular expression of artistry and skill. The serpentine oval top is a true work of art: a richly figured field of multi-exotic wood inlay, every element hand-cut and assembled by master artisans into a swirling tapestry of foliate scrolls, acanthus, blossoms, and burlwood reserves. The mirror-matched veneers radiate from the center in luminous warm tones of honey, amber, and deep walnut, finished to a brilliant high polish that brings the entire composition to life. The table is supported by a single sculptural pedestal of extraordinary depth, hand-carved with cascading rococo scrollwork, foliate volutes, and a central urn-form standard, descending to four boldly modeled cabriole legs terminating in carved paw feet. The scalloped, shaped apron is enriched with carved shell and palmette cartouches at each corner, echoing the movement of the top's undulating profile. This is collector-grade carving, crisp, dimensional, and executed entirely by hand. The six accompanying chairs are also Italian and entirely custom, comprising two graceful armchairs and four side chairs. Each is built on a solid hardwood frame with intricate hand carving throughout, finely reeded and fluted detailing, and carved rosette and acanthus accents at the crest and arm supports, rising on turned, tapered legs. The chairs are dressed in a custom Italian damask of ivory and silver, woven with a flowing scrolling-vine pattern and finished with corded gimp trim, a fabric chosen to complement the warmth and luminosity of the table's marquetry. Offered as a one-of-a-kind gallery collection piece, this suite represents the pinnacle of bespoke craftsmanship, uniting centuries-old marquetry artistry with custom-tailored upholstery. Search the web and the Italian sites, and you will be hard pressed to find anything reflecting this level of detail and carving, as the workshop, located just outside of Bergamo, has now closed. A true gem and a rare opportunity to acquire a singular work of functional art, presented in superb condition and ready to anchor the finest dining room. Table: 40 x 79 x 36" Chairs: 19 x 21 x 40"
