Description
$11,220. A deep black field carries an elegant allover of ivory and cream flowering vine, linking stylised palmettes and rosettes with touches of burgundy and soft earth tone, framed by a wide ivory border of matching botanical ornament. The Peshawar design belongs to the revival begun in the 1990s, in which weavers returned to hand-spun yarn and vegetable dyes to reproduce the character of the nineteenth-century Ziegler carpets, themselves made for the European market to a deliberately softened classical formula. Hand-spun yarn takes dye unevenly along its length, which is precisely the point: the resulting subtle variation gives the ground a depth that evenly dyed machine-spun wool cannot achieve. The wool is notably soft and lustrous. Design pattern: Allover flowering vine and palmette on black ground, Peshawar. Size: 9'9" x 13'10". Gallery Collection.
