Description
$22,400. A deep indigo field is commanded by a large salmon-pink and ivory oval medallion, with delicate scrolling vines and blossoms filling the ground about it and matching spandrels at the corners beneath a salmon border. Indigo was the most laborious of the traditional dyes, requiring fermentation in a vat and repeated immersion, the yarn emerging green and turning blue only on contact with air; the depth achieved here represents many separate dippings. Tabriz is the oldest continuously productive weaving city in Persia and the medallion format is its signature achievement. Fine knotting and silk highlights give the surface a distinct sheen. Design pattern: Oval central medallion with corner spandrels, Tabriz. Size: 6'8" x 9'11". Gallery Collection.
