Description
$2,815. An ivory field carries an intricate tracery of arabesques and blossoms in indigo and charcoal, centred on a finely drawn blue medallion, with multiple guard borders executed as carefully as the field itself. Nain is a desert town near Isfahan whose weaving industry is barely a century old: when demand for its fine woollen cloth collapsed in the 1930s, the town's tailors turned their skills to the loom and within a generation had established one of the most exacting standards in Persia. Nain fineness is graded in laa, the number of threads twisted into each warp, with four-laa work the finest made; the ivory silk used to outline each motif is the type's unmistakable signature. Cotton foundation with wool and silk pile. Design pattern: Central medallion with fine arabesque field, Nain. Size: 3'8" x 6'0". Gallery Collection.
