The herati pattern, a diamond enclosing a rosette flanked by four curved lancet leaves, is the most widely distributed field design in classical carpet art, adopted across virtually every weaving region and instantly recognisable to collectors; the curve of those leaves suggested fish circling a pool to the weavers who first named it.
