Description
$10,560. A quietly beautiful Tabriz in which the wheat-gold field has softened to a warm, sun-bleached tone, the allover floral and vine work reading in muted grey and taupe beneath a taupe-brown border. Tabriz sits on the old caravan route into Anatolia and has woven continuously since at least the fifteenth century, longer than any other Persian centre; its weavers alone use the symmetrical knot within a tradition otherwise dominated by the asymmetrical, a technical inheritance from the Turkic populations of the northwest. The restrained palette here is unusual for the city and increasingly sought for transitional interiors where a strong madder red would overpower the room. Hand-knotted wool on a cotton foundation. Design pattern: Allover floral and vine, Tabriz. Size: 8'4" x 11'0". Gallery Collection.
