Description
$8,960. A star-form medallion in soft rose and cream radiates across an ivory field densely filled with vine and blossom, framed by a salmon-pink border, in a format very nearly square. Square carpets are uncommon for a practical reason: a loom is warped to a fixed width and weavers were generally commissioned for rectangular rooms, so the proportion had to be requested deliberately. It suits a landing, a bay window or the ground beneath a round table, where a rectangle sits awkwardly. The star medallion, built from interpenetrating rhomboids, descends from the geometric ornament of Persian tilework and architectural vaulting. Cotton warp with wool and silk pile. Design pattern: Star medallion with corner brackets and floral field, Tabriz. Size: 4'7" x 4'10". Gallery Collection.
