Description
$6,230. High contrast governs the composition: an inky black ground carries an ordered grid of ivory rosettes, star medallions and interlocking bracket panels, answered by a wide border of bold scrolling arabesques in the same cream. Tibetan weaving is distinguished by a technique found almost nowhere else, the cut-loop knot, in which yarn is looped continuously around a rod laid across the warp and the loops then cut to form the pile. The method produces a notably plush, resilient surface and allows the crisp geometry this design depends on. Highland wool from sheep pastured at altitude carries a high lanolin content, giving the fibre both a natural sheen and considerable resistance to soiling. Design pattern: Allover panel and star-rosette grid, Tibetan. Size: 7'11" x 10'3". Gallery Collection.
