Carpets built to the Bidjar standard are made to a density found nowhere else: the warps are held under extreme tension and each row of weft driven home with a heavy metal comb, producing a fabric that lies flat under furniture and resists compression for generations. The hexagonal medallion is characteristic of the type, its flat sides answering the geometry of the herati field more naturally than a curved medallion would.
