Description
$3,940. A column of stepped diamond medallions in terracotta, navy and cream is set against an ivory ground, with small geometric fillers packed into every remaining interval and multiple narrow borders in navy and rust framing the design. The Yalameh are a Luri tribal group settled between Fars and Isfahan, and their work is prized for exactly this quality of horror vacui, the impulse to fill every empty space, which distinguishes genuine tribal weaving from commercial imitations that leave the ground open to save labour. The wool is drawn from the tribe's own flocks and dyed with madder, indigo and walnut husk. The near-square proportion suits a square room or a landing where a standard rectangle would sit awkwardly. Design pattern: Stepped diamond medallions on ivory ground, Yalameh tribal. Size: 6'5" x 6'11". Gallery Collection.
