Description
$7,520. A soft rose and salmon field is dominated by a large, finely drawn indigo floral medallion, with ivory corner spandrels containing vases and palmettes and a deep navy border of scrolling blossom. Heriz sits on the slopes of Mount Sabalan northeast of Tabriz, and the district produces a range from bold angular village work to the finer curvilinear drawing seen here, the latter associated with its better workshops and closer in character to the neighbouring city carpets. The vase motif set within a spandrel descends from the seventeenth-century vase carpets of Kerman, among the most celebrated groups in Persian weaving. The tonality throughout is softened and harmonious. Catalogued by the seller as a Heriz. Design pattern: Central floral medallion with corner spandrels, Heriz. Size: 9'6" x 13'9". Gallery Collection.
