The set comprises 3 pieces: the round underplate, the tureen itself, and its lid. The underplate is stamped with the Flight, Barr and Barr crown mark, used between 1813 and 1840, while the tureen itself bears no mark due to its small base, though it is clearly by the same maker. The tureen features a large, impressive armorial crest on both sides, done at a notably larger scale than typically seen, depicting a rampant lion beneath a ribbon bearing the Latin motto “Auxilium meum a domino” , translating to "My help is from the Lord." Handsome gilded handles and generous gilding appear throughout, all in fabulous condition. This tureen comfortably holds 14 cups, or 112 ounces, of soup without overfilling. The underplate measures 12 1/8 inches in diameter. The tureen measures 11 5/8 inches over the handles, and 10 3/4 inches tall to the top of the finial. With the tureen resting on its base, the total height is just over 11 inches. The lid does not include a notch for a ladle, though a ladle can be rested on the wide circular base. Condition is excellent throughout, with one small chip to the underside of the underplate's rim, only visible when turned over, and completely insignificant. Otherwise, there are no other chips, no cracks, no repairs, no loss of gilding, and no problems.
