Vintage gelatin silver print from Polaroid T665 P/N negative on Agfa paper 33.4 x 25.3 cm, in excellent condition. Signed, dated and edition remark "AP" in pencil as well as former Polaroid Coll. no. Following his time as an assistant to Dorothea Lange and Robert Frank, Ralph Gibson established his international reputation as one of the leading figures in post-war American photography through the photo books published by his own publishing house, "Lustrum Press". His visual language is characterised by striking light-and-dark contrasts, formal minimalism and a surreal, at times mysterious visual aesthetic, which also define the work shown here.

Nach seiner Tätigkeit als Assistent von Dorothea Lange und Robert Frank begründete Ralph Gibson mit den in seinem Verlag "Lustrum Press" publizierten Fotobänden seinen internationalen Ruf als einer der bedeutenden Vertreter der amerikanischen Nachkriegsfotografie. Kennzeichnend für seine Bildsprache sind prägnante Hell-Dunkel-Kontraste, formale Reduktion und eine surreale, bisweilen geheimnisvolle Bildästhetik, die auch die hier gezeigte Arbeit prägen.
