Claudia Schumann's photographic works are frequently characterized by the use of multiple exposures and frame-breaking image formats, which, through specially developed presentation forms made of acrylic glass or steel, transform the photograph into an object. Both her thematic approach to subjects (e.g. aspects of physicality and identity) and her technical use of the medium are characterized by specific poetic strategies that give space to unconscious mechanisms in experience, perception and communication. The work on display was created through a process combining analogue and digital techniques – involving cutting, overpainting and collage – and explores questions of identity such as transformation and self-reflexive relationships.

Die fotografischen Arbeiten von Claudia Schumann sind häufig durch den Einsatz von Mehrfachbelichtungen und kadersprengenden Bildformaten charakterisiert, die durch eigens entwickelte Präsentationsformen, aus Acrylglas bzw. Stahl, die Fotografie ins Objekthafte erweitern. Sowohl die thematische Herangehensweise an Sujets (z.B. Aspekte von Körperlichkeit und Identität) als auch der technische Einsatz des Mediums sind durch spezifische poetische Strategien gekennzeichnet, die unbewussten Mechanismen in Erleben, Wahrnehmung und Kommunikation Raum geben. Die angebotene Arbeit entstand in einem Prozess analoger und digitaler Arbeitsschritte – mittels Zerschneiden, Übermalen und Collagieren – und behandelt Identitätsfragen wie Transformation und selbstreflexive Verhältnisse.
