Durham circa 1760-70 by Samuel Thompson II (active c. 1751-84) Three George II/III provincial sterling silver teaspoons

Two Hanoverian pattern, one with fancy back engraved to the terminal with initials ES in Roman script, maker’s mark twice. The other with traces of a fancy back, engraved to the terminal with initials MB in Roman script, maker’s mark and lion passant. The third Old English pattern, virginal, double drop heel, maker’s mark and lion passant. (3)

Notes:

Samuel Thompson II of Elvert Bridge, Durham registered his mark in the Newcastle assay office 1st March 1751, but as his father Samuel Thompson I had died on 2nd July 1747 it is possible his mark was used earlier than when it was registered. The survival rate for Samuel Thompson items is very low, mostly just teaspoons.
