This collection of eight cast brass decorative objects consists of various ornamental and functional items, many identifying their origin through impressed markings. A large globular bowl is supported by a stylized, primitive-style four-legged dog figure; the underside is impressed with the word CHINA and two Chinese characters that are not legible as a name (photo 12). A smaller version of this bowl also features a dog-form base and an impressed CHINA mark on the bottom (photo 13). The collection includes an ornate footed basket with a fixed handle cast in the form of a gnarled grapevine with leaves and fruit clusters, resting on three small feet (photo 2). A small footed urn features two relief-cast satyr or lion-head masks on the rim (photo 9). A shoe-form dish with cast scrollwork and a cigarette rest is impressed CHINA on the underside (photo 15). Also included are a decorative Aladdin-style lamp with incised linear patterns and a scrolling handle (photo 6), a hand bell engraved with a pagoda and mountain landscape (photo 10), and a small classic urn-form door knocker (photo 3). These items reflect the whimsical animal motifs and traditional forms typical of mid-20th-century Chinese export metalware. Dimensions: largest 5 in diameter.
