A collection of vintage Japanese-made glazed ceramic table lighters designed in the form of stylized horse heads, resembling traditional equestrian hitching posts or chess knights. The group includes three examples in a cream-colored ceramic with gold-painted accents on the manes and bases, and one example in a high-gloss terracotta-colored glaze with silver-toned accents. Each horse head features a molded bridle with a loose metal ring bit suspended from the muzzle. The items are constructed with ceramic bodies and recessed metal lighter mechanisms at the top. The top of the metal lighter inserts are stamped with the characters JAPAN. The undersides of the cream-colored lighters feature metal fuel and flint screws, with one screw embossed EVANS and the other embossed FUEL. The underside rim of a gold-toned metal base plate bears a small stamped geometric mark resembling a triangle, though internal characters are not legible as a name.
