Description
A dynamic acrylic and collage work by Jeffrey Vincent. Four young men huddle in safety neath a buck's antlers; they are surrounded by dark landscape, yet the sky seemingly pours out with expressive color. A professional artist since 2002, Vincent graduated from Hoffberger School of Painting at the Maryland Institute of Art in 2012 and now resides in Buffalo, New York.
Vincent depicts his vision of the individual in western society, plagued by social and environmental crises, in an engaging manner. The work is both abstract and figurative combining acrylic and collage on canvas. His highly colorful montages are populated by some recognizable characters mixed with fantastical creatures in highly imaginative scenarios. The collaged imagery is appropriated from old yearbooks, Time magazines and other periodicals.
"The content of my current body of paintings stems from my explorations into archetypes and collective memory. I reduce the subject matter to its essence by specific cropping and mark making that serves to create a perpetual state of transformation and flux between figure and ground. Anchored in its visual lyricism, my work effectively draws the viewer in to often dark subject matter, with the balance of seductive colors and formal acuity."
