The five paintings of the "Rocky Shores" series, part of the larger West Coast series, were painted one after the other, all sharing multi-colored skies and waters, all paying homage to monolithic rocks, rising like sculpture out of the seas.

The colors in "Sunset Seas and Skies" are elusive, fairly changing color in different lights. The waters, in certain light, appear transparent; the rocks are highly textured--craggy. In certainl lights, the skies positively glow off the surface. This is a smaller painting, 14" x 18" and measuring 21" x22.5" with frame--but it packs a powerful punch in any room.

The paintings in this series are VERY "painterly" and emblematic of the post impressionist movement. Like impressionism, the artist uses thick paint, texture and vivid color. But unlike the impressionist, the post impressionist (in this case, George) focuses on shapes and design as they appear in nature, giving a subtle nod to abstraction.
