Description
Fine circa 19th Century etching titled L'Abreuvoir by Jean Moyreau after a painting by the same name by the celebrated 17th Century Dutch master Philips Wouwermens. This richly detailed riverbank scene depicts riders watering their horses while women attend to laundry along the water's edge, animated by figures, animals, and a rustic building in the background.
The work comes from Oeuvres de Philippe Wouwermens, first etched and published in Paris by Jean Moyreau circa 1733-1734. The plate is finely lettered with the title, artist attributions, and the Paris publication address, and includes an inscription noting the provenance of the original painting from the private collection of Madame la Comtesse de Verrue.
An early impression of this subject is represented in The British Museum collection. The print is handsomely matted and framed, ready for display on a library wall, study, living room, or hallway, and would sit beautifully among other Old Master prints or European works on paper. It will be especially appreciated by collectors of Dutch Golden Age art or classical landscape imagery. It will be shipped fully insured with tracking.
