About the artist.
Joseph Pauwels was born December 16, 1903 in Sleydinge, Belgium. Pauwels received academic training in Paris and learned the style and techniques of the French Impressionists. The bright colors, reality and unique brush strokes of his paintings depicting the Belgian countryside, showing with no doubt that they were done outdoors on location. He was a very successful artist before and after WWII. He exhibited widely in Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam and across Europe. His paintings are represented at the Gand museum in Belgium, and are held in numerous private collections in Belgium and Europe. Pauwels died on March 12, 1983.
