Emanuel Romano was born Emanuel Romano Glicenstein in Rome in the year 1897,the son of Polish-born Jewish sculptor and Paris Salon-exhibiting artist Henry Glicenstein. Romano took his first lessons from his father in Paris and began exhibiting there while still a child. After coming to America in 1927 he altered and abbreviated his name to Emanuel Glicenstein Romano, sometimes signing "Glicen Romano" or E.G. Romano prior to WW2. During this time after working in Boston, he exhibited extensively in New York where he established a studio on the upper East Side of Manhattan. He exhibited in Europe again after. WWII as well as in Israel, and is in numerous Israeli collections.
