Description
I found this set of watercolors so charming that I very nearly kept them. These two pieces were created three years apart and I'm captivated by how they show the progression of the artist's work. The 1966 image (the one on the bottom of the featured photo) takes a familiar perspective of an oft-painted location. But the 1969 image shows the artist making a bold and creative choice. This time, while depicting another often-painted location, he elects to put the landmark off-center and in the background while letting the contemporary scene take center stage. In fact, this is such an unusual angle that it took me quite some time to identify the cathedral. (Thankfully, I'm a sucker for artistic detective work. Results below.)
