Description
This handcrafted piece is unique. It is stoneware, underglazes and minimal paint, measuring 11"wx13"h
It was made in 2023 at the Harvard Ceramic Studio, Boston MA
As a potter in the 90's with many years of experience primarily throwing functional work, I started my professional career in the arts in 1980. When I retired as Director and Chief Curator of the Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton in 2006, it was time to return to clay but this time challenge myself with figurative works. Since them I have made many pieces of the figure but primarily heads and busts, an even a small collection of political icons.
Drawing inspiration from diverse sources such as art history, contemporary events, social causes, pop culture, and the intricate nuances of human existence, my sculptures , much to my delight come alive midway through the creative process. It is a transformative moment when they take on a distinct personality and become a unique being.
In essence, I am driven by a desire to capture the essence of the human experience and invite a emotional dialogue between the artwork and its audience.
