Description
This rare and highly collectible mirror was designed by David Linley, the renowned British furniture designer (and member of the British royal family) celebrated for his luxury craftsmanship. Trained in traditional cabinetmaking, Linley built an international reputation for precision marquetry and bespoke furniture, earning commissions from royalty, celebrities, and major cultural institutions. His pieces rarely appear on the open market-especially commission works like this one.
Manufactured by The David Linley Co. (now Linley), this mirror was custom-produced for PolyGram Records in the late 1980s/early 1990s, to be gifted to recording artists. Corporate commissions by Linley are exceptionally scarce, and this piece represents a unique intersection of British design heritage and music industry history.
This mirror is a perfect example of Linley's signature style: honoring and highlighting natural wood grain, precise joinery, and luxurious marquetry work. The frame features a light wood border with checkerboard marquetry made from contrasting light and golden-toned wood, arranged in alternating diagonal grain patterns that catch the light beautifully. Exceptional quality down to the brass screws.
Stamped with "DAVID LINLEY FOR POLYGRAM" and with "THE DAVID LINLEY CO." logo. New mirrors by Linley range from about $3,000-$8,000, and vintage Linley mirrors from this era-extremely hard to come by-retail in or above that range.
Comes ready to hang with original French cleat.
