Description
Picasso's Limoges plates stem from his broader interest in ceramics, blending high art with everyday function, especially after World War II, utilizing Limoges' fine porcelain blanks for popular editions or featuring iconic imagery, making his art accessible to many beyond just the wealthy.
This set was produced in limited capacity in 1952. Each plate is 9.5" in diameter. Black line drawings on pure white French Limoges porcelain. Commissioned by the Peace Federation to promote peace in Indo China. Several artists and writers donated their time and talent to this project. The plate with inscription reads, "The man who is impassioned with peace crowns himself with hope" and is attributed to French poet Paul Eluard.
Each plate stamped Limoges France and the artist's signature stamp, with one plate featuring a verse by Paul Eluard and featuring, in addition, his signature stamp.
