Description
Pair of vintage Chinese porcelain baluster-form vases featuring vibrant hand-painted Foo Dog (Imperial Guardian Lion) motifs in iron red with green accents and decorative calligraphic script verso. Marked on the underside. Circa 20th century.
Richly detailed and highly decorative, these striking vases depict traditional Imperial Guardian Lions - powerful symbols in Feng Shui representing protection, prosperity, strength, and good fortune. Historically, Foo Dogs were placed at the entrances of imperial palaces, temples, government buildings, and affluent homes as guardians against negative energy and symbols of status and wealth.
The vases feature dramatic iron-red brushwork, sculptural applied handles, and elegant traditional Chinese decorative borders. Their bold palette and commanding scale make them exceptional statement pieces for Chinoiserie, Hollywood Regency, maximalist, eclectic, or traditional interiors.
