Description
Conceived by Italian designer Piero Figura and executed by Atena, this stunning piece was offered through Neiman Marcus most likely as a wine chiller, presumed due to its large stature. However, it could be just as appropriate serving as a centerpiece or large vase.
Art deco in style with a celestial theme, a divine acrobat figure appears to be in flight upon and playing a perhaps cornucopia-inspired horn which broadens dramatically into large petals or licking flames, forming the vessel for an inverted bottle and ice. Mounted on a substantial domed base having impressed stars, Figura furthers the celestial energy.
Known for blending traditional Italian craftsmanship with functional designs and whimsy, Figura earned the nickname "Dalof the Navigli"... referring to famed artist and eccentric-extraordinaire, Salvador Dali... and Nivigli being a vibrant and cultural center in Milan, where he'd found his home and spawned the bulk of his creations.
Markings, present on bottom of base:
"Figura Piero per Atena", engaved or embossed.
"Etain 95%", representing tin content, which is consistent the the metallurgy of pewter.
"Cipolla for Neiman-Marcus" label, representing some involvement of designer Richard Cipolla.
An illustration of a friendly-faced sunburst.
