Two ca. 1780 New England Windsor armchairs, both in old dark surface, including: a Rhode Island brace back example, the bowed crest rail over pipe turned spindles and a shaped seat, the scrolled arms on turned supports, raised on splayed baluster turned legs joined by a swelled H stretcher, 38.5”H x 19”W, seat height 17.5”; a continuous arm example, the bowed back and arms in one piece over turned spindles and a shaped saddle seat, raised on splayed baluster turned legs joined by a swelled H stretcher, 38”H x 22”W, seat height 18”.
Condition
First chair lacking its original leather seat, old and possibly early surface, wear commensurate with age. Second chair old and possibly original surface, wear commensurate with age. Both structurally sound.
