Description
A ca. 1930 original pencil and ink view of the E. E. Taylor Corporation shoe factory by Bert Poole (Albert F. Poole, American, 1853-1934), signed Bert Poole in pencil lower right. The large brick mill shown in bird’s eye perspective with twin mansard towers flying American flags and a smoking stack, workers crowding the sidewalks and a stake truck lettered Taylor Made Men’s Fine Shoes at the loading doors, matted in a mahogany frame. Overall 39.5” x 64.5”. Provenance: Bert Poole is Albert F. Poole, 1853 to 1934, a New England painter and bird’s eye view specialist born in Brockton, Massachusetts, listed in the Boston directories as a bird’s eye specialist from 1905 to 1919, and known for working in pen and pencil rather than from photographs. Brockton was a shoe manufacturing town, and Poole’s early views are full of shoe factories.
