Rare Portrait of Jolie Gabor famous Jewerly maker and Mother of thr Gabor sisters directly from Zsa ZsA Gabor's estate.

Note there are no other portraits in the world of her mother by this Vatican studio appointed artist.


In the 1930s, Gabor opened Crystello, a shop selling crystal and porcelain in Budapest, as well as Jolie's, a handmade-costume-jewelry shop at 4 Kigyo utca in Budapest; she also established another branch of that shop in Gyor. Eventually there were five such shops in the Budapest area.

The firm's jewels also incorporated semiprecious stones and were admired for their old-fashioned settings and workmanship.
"Just like Bulgari is known in Rome, that's how well-known I was in Budapest", Jolie once stated. "Jolie's did so well that at holiday time they were standing outside in line waiting until somebody goes out from the inside." The rise of Nazism in Germany forced her to curtail her retail business, Gabor recalled, "Everybody told, 'Jolie is crazy to go now to Berlin and Leipzig for jewelry.' I never went again."


Mr. Lautman is internationally * known as the great Viennese portrait painter and his wife as the former Beya de Movaes. concert pianist, to their friends in Palm Springs they have become popular villagers, Sascha and Beya. Sascha Lautman studied art in Italy, completing (he course at the Rome Academy and serving for two years as a faculty associate. the youngest art professor in Europe. He then was made resident portrait painter of the Vatican and for the next three years was occupied with portraits of papal dignitaries in Rome. Here, the studio which Bernini occupied while doing the facade of St. Peter's Church was turned over to Lautman -the only person who has ever used it -and is still maintained exclusively for his use. Among his sitters have been many European rulers and

statesmen. He painted Queen Marie and Princess Helena of Rumania. the Duchess of Kent (former Princess Marina of Greece!. and the Countess Volpi, reputedly the most beautiful woman in Europe. Twice he was called upon to do portraits of Padrewski. once in Poland and once in this country. The latter was used as Padrewski's official likeness and for reproduction on all of his concert programs. Lautman became an American citizen in 1935 and while he has returned to Europe many times, he lias painted in every state in the Union with the exception of Mal n e and Minnesota. He painted the typical American boy which hangs in the Brooklyn Museum. the grand children of Franklin Roosevelt, and socialites and stars from Park Avenue to Hollywood. While both Beya and Sascha Lautman gained fame in Europe -he as (he painter and she an accomplished pianist-it was in .New York they met for the first time. They were Introduced to each other by Mrs. Jesse Jones of Houston, just after Beya arrived fo a concert tour of the United States. The tour was never taken because soon after that they were married and Beya has preferred to follow her husband in his own career rather than pursue one for herself. In 1941 Lautman volunteered for service with the Army Air Force and from then until 1944, he was stationed at various posts between Los Angeles and Birmingham. in charge of civilian aircraft engineers.
