About the Artist: John Hull (born 1952, New Haven, Connecticut) is an American narrative painter known for intimate, psychologically charged scenes drawn from everyday American life. Trained at Yale University and the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, Hull brought to painting a former career as a sports reporter, developing a sharp eye for the unguarded moment and the human story beneath the surface. His work explores what he describes as life's quiet passages, the tension between boredom and wonder, passion and doubt, rendered with the attentiveness of a seasoned observer. Hull is perhaps best known for a celebrated baseball series painted during a residency with a minor league team, focusing not on the game itself but on its margins: locker room rituals, bullpen waiting, the idle rhythms that reveal character. His work is held in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Yale University Art Gallery, the Denver Art Museum, and the Israel Museum, among others.
