A handsome set of six antique Staffordshire red transferware plates in the highly collectible Canova pattern by renowned English pottery manufacturer T. Mayer of Stoke-upon-Trent, England.

Each plate measures approximately 9.25 inches in diameter and features a richly detailed transfer-printed design showcasing romantic classical landscapes, architectural garden scenes, floral arrangements, decorative urns, and waterside vignettes rendered in a warm red palette against a cream-colored earthenware body. The scalloped edges and intricate border decoration create exceptional visual interest and decorative appeal.

The reverse bears the Canova T. Mayer Stoke Upon Trent backstamp. Thomas Mayer was one of the notable Staffordshire pottery manufacturers of the nineteenth century, producing transferware that was widely exported throughout Europe and America. Today, authentic T. Mayer pieces are highly sought after by collectors of English transferware and antique Staffordshire ceramics.

Five of the plates feature the same central scenic composition, while one plate displays a closely related alternate landscape scene. This slight variation is consistent with antique transferware production of the period and adds character and authenticity to the collection while maintaining a cohesive appearance when displayed together.
