Description

A striking Japanese Gold Imari porcelain charger plate, featuring a central roundel with Japanese characters (possibly a mark or poem) in black on a white ground. The plate's body is decorated with an intricate pattern of gilded geometric grids and dark blue enamel, interspersed with eight quatrefoil-shaped cartouches. These cartouches showcase a vibrant array of hand-painted floral motifs in red, green, and gold. The rim is adorned with a classic Greek key or fret pattern in gold against a dark blue band. The reverse features simplified blue underglaze floral sprigs and a red overglaze mark "Gold Imari" with Japanese characters, indicating its origin and style. The Imari style is known for its bold colors, especially red, blue, and gold, and elaborate designs.
