Summary:
Antique Italian maiolica two-handled apothecary or pharmacy jar of baluster form, decorated in blue, yellow, orange and green enamels on a white ground. The central reserve depicts a standing female figure in a landscape, surrounded by scrolling foliate decoration. Below is a bordered pharmaceutical inscription reading ‘AQV·D·CETACA’ or similar.

The vessel is fitted with two large loop handles and decorated with concentric blue bands around the neck and foot. The form and polychrome decoration draw upon traditional Italian Renaissance pharmacy wares of the 15th and 16th centuries.

Measurement: 14 1/4 x 11 1/2 x 9 1/2 in. (36.2 x 29.2 x 24.1 cm.) approx
