Large hand-carved wood carousel horse, circa 1900, modeled in a spirited prancing pose with one foreleg raised. The figure features a finely carved head with expressive facial details, bridle and tack, a textured mane, and a dramatically carved flowing tail. The body retains an aged painted surface with a rich reddish-brown finish and contrasting green saddle blanket embellished with decorative accents. Maker unknown. The surface displays wear, losses and variations to the painted finish consistent with age and use.
