Summary:
Japanese bronze sculpture of a prowling tiger, Meiji period (1868–1912), circa 1900. Finely modeled in a dynamic stance with its head raised and mouth open, exposing the teeth and tongue. The body is rendered with incised stripes and naturalistic detailing to the musculature, paws, facial features and fur. The eyes are accented with gold-toned cabochon insets.
