Attributed to Henri Matisse (French, 1869–1954), portrait drawing depicting Paul Matisse (b. 1933), the artist’s grandson and son of art dealer Pierre Matisse. Signed and dated lower left.

Henri Matisse produced a documented group of portraits of his grandson Paul in 1946. Ten of which were later exhibited together at Thomas Gibson Fine Art, London, in 1971. Documented examples from the group include charcoal, pencil and ink portraits bearing July 1946 signatures and dates, with examples subsequently authenticated by members and representatives of the Matisse family and archives.
